As we are in the thick of it preparing for the festive period here at LD:NorthEast, I’d like to take this opportunity to spread some good news.
We have been granted funding for three exciting projects over the last few months;
St James Place Charitable Foundation have funded a new project ‘Young Healthy Connections’ for a three year period.
Sport England have funded our wider ‘Healthy Connections’ project allowing us to restart our accessible sporting activities.
The Masonic Charitable Foundation have pledged to support our ‘Early Connections’ project for the next three years.
Young Healthy Connections and Healthy Connections are projects that offer accessible physical and sports-based activities to people with learning disabilities, difficulties and autism. The project is designed to offer opportunities for people with minimal support to build social connections and focus on their health and well-being through a weekly programme of sports related activities. The new project Young Healthy Connections allows us to start new sessions, aimed specifically at younger people aged 16-25.

Early Connections supports children aged 0-5 years who have learning and/or physical disabilities, communication difficulties, complex health needs or life limiting conditions. We have groups and activities, offering inclusive play opportunities for children who would otherwise struggle to access mainstream services. I’d like to thank Children in Need who have funded our work with early years children for the past 12 years. Their funding has been integral to supporting so many children and families and we are looking forward to building on this work with our new funding from the Masonic Charitable Fund over the next three years.

On a more personal note I am expecting a belated Christmas gift, a baby boy, due in January of next year. I am in my final weeks of Christmas festivities before finishing for my maternity leave. I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff, volunteers, people we support and their families here at LD:NorthEast for all the well wishes and gifts.
